Lithium-ion polymer batteries, also known as Li-poly batteries or LiPo batteries, are a type of rechargeable battery that have become increasingly popular in recent years. They offer many advantages over other types of rechargeable batteries, including high energy density, low self-discharge rates, and a long cycle life. However, like all batteries, they have certain limitations and precautions that must be taken into account in order to ensure their safe and efficient operation. One of the most important factors to consider is the battery's operating temperature range.

Proper operating temperature

The typical operating temperature range for lithium-ion polymer batteries is between -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F). This range is wide enough to cover most normal usage scenarios, from the extreme cold of winter to the hot summer months. However, it is important to note that the optimal temperature range for Li-poly batteries is between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). This is the temperature range where the battery can achieve its maximum performance and efficiency.

High temperature

At high temperatures, Li-poly batteries can suffer from reduced capacity and shortened cycle life. This is because high temperatures can cause the battery's electrolyte to break down and degrade, leading to increased internal resistance and reduced charge capacity. In extreme cases, high temperatures can also cause the battery to swell, leak, or even catch fire. Therefore, it is important to avoid exposing Li-poly batteries to temperatures above 60°C (140°F), especially for prolonged periods of time.

Low temperature

On the other hand, at low temperatures, Li-poly batteries can also suffer from reduced capacity and performance. This is because low temperatures can cause the battery's chemical reactions to slow down, leading to decreased charge capacity and output voltage. In extreme cases, low temperatures can also cause the battery to freeze, which can damage the electrolyte and internal components. Therefore, it is important to avoid exposing Li-poly batteries to temperatures below -20°C (-4°F) .
