Electric-Vehicle Battery (EVB) is a type of battery used in BEV or HEV to supply friction energy. Mostly rechargeable batteries, lithium ion batteries are common at present. Electric vehicle batteries are typically designed for high capacity, with large ampere-hour (or kilowatt-hour) specifications.

Ev batteries are different from those used in cars to start, light and start the ignition (SLI). The battery of electric vehicle needs to have power output continuously for a long time, which belongs to the deep-cycle battery that needs to output a considerable degree of power. Electric vehicle battery is characterized by its high power to weight ratio, specific energy and energy density: if the electric vehicle battery is lighter, the vehicle weight will be lighter, which can improve the performance of the vehicle, so it is generally expected that the weight of the electric vehicle battery can be relatively light. The specific energy of most ev batteries is still too low compared to liquid fuel, limiting the maximum horsepower range for electrification. Vehicles with a certain mileage may not be able to convert to electric vehicles because of weight issues.

Lithium-ion batteries and lithium-ion polymer batteries are the most common ones in electric vehicles due to their power density. Other batteries used in electric vehicles are lead-acid batteries (full tank lead-acid battery, deep cycle lead-acid battery, and valve regulated lead-acid battery , nickel-cadmium battery, nickel-hydrogen battery, and occasionally use zinc air battery and molten salt battery . The amount of energy (charge) stored in a battery is measured in ampere-hours or coulombs, and its stored energy is measured in kilowatt-hours. Since the late 1990s, demand for portable electronics, laptops, cell phones and power tools has led to advances in lithium-ion battery technology. The market for electric vehicles has also benefited, with improvements in battery performance and power density. Unlike nickel-cadmium batteries in the past, lithium-ion batteries can be charged and discharged every day and can be charged or discharged in any state of charge.
